What is a facelift?

A facelift is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of your face and give you a fresher, younger look.

You might be a candidate for a facelift if sagging, loose, or wrinkled skin is prematurely aging you and you’re unhappy with the appearance of your face or neck. These common skin flaws are often the result of aging, weight loss, and sun exposure. Your facial skin might also become lax in the years after a surgery.

Dr. Sokoya can help you determine whether a facelift is a procedure that will help you reach your cosmetic goals. He offers personalized skin consultations to evaluate the issues you want to correct and discusses your expectations for surgery.

In addition to your facelift procedure, Dr. Sokoya can also perform other cosmetic surgeries at the same time to give you a more vibrant, youthful appearance. Other surgical options include:

  • Brow lift
  • Rhinoplasty
  • Chin implantation
  • Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery)

During your initial consultation, Dr. Sokoya takes preoperative (before) pictures so you can see the improvements postoperatively.

What happens during a facelift?

During your facelift, you’ll receive general anesthesia to keep you comfortable and pain-free. Dr. Sokoya makes incisions around your temple and ear lobe then separates your skin from the underlying connective tissue.

Dr. Sokoya then tightens this connective tissue and can remove any loose skin to enhance your appearance. He can also use liposuction technology to remove excess fat from your face and neck.

How long does it take to recover from a facelift?

You can expect to stay in the hospital overnight as part of your recovery before you can go home to rest. You will wear bandages on your face for several days and Dr. Sokoya prescribes medications to control your pain.

A week after your surgery, you will have a postoperative evaluation and Dr. Sokoya will remove your sutures. It’s common to still have some tightness and discoloration in your face and neck for several weeks as you heal.

Dr. Sokoya continues to monitor your gradual healing process. He recommends that you avoid the sun to minimize scarring.

Many people are able to see the final result of their facelift within six months of their surgery. Your skin will look and feel tighter and smoother, and you’ll feel a boost in your self-confidence and your satisfaction with your appearance.
